Military Organizational Chart v1.0.1.0

Mil Org Chart, for short.

A Power BI custom visual for organizations where one reporting line is not enough — where a billet answers administratively to one command, operationally to another, and sits inside a triad, a department and a region all at once.

Quick start

Get a chart on the page in ten minutes, starting from the sample data.

Model overview

How one flat table describes billets, edges, groups, people and assignments.

User guide

Reading a chart: panels, tabs, navigation, search and export.

Edit Mode

Making changes, exporting a changeset, and pushing it back to the source.

What makes it different

More than one chain of command

Most org chart visuals draw a single tree. This one draws up to five chains over the same set of billets — administrative, operational, positional, functional and mentor. One is the spine that determines layout; the others are overlays you can switch on to see who else a billet answers to.

Groups that behave like real organizations

A triad, a department, a staff-code block and a detachment set are all groups, and groups nest inside one another or hang beneath a specific billet. A region contains its own triad and staff, and its detachments hang below the region commander — which is what the chart actually looks like on a wall.

People, not just boxes

A billet is a role; a person fills it for a while and then rotates. The visual keeps those separate, so it can show who holds a billet today, how long they have held it, who held it before, and which billets are gapped.

Changes travel back

Readers with permission can reorganize, assign and annotate, then export a changeset for approval and loading into the authoritative source. Nothing is written directly — the visual proposes, a person disposes.

Who this is for. Two audiences. Report authors bind the data and configure the visual — start with the quick start and the field reference. Readers explore and maintain the chart — start with the user guide.
